Construction workers are susceptible to injuries due to random accidents in the site. No matter how slowly and surely they move around, they can be prone to hurt in one or two ways. They are dealing with humongous machinery and heavy equipment, so accidents are unavoidable.

Here some hazards that can happen in construction sites:
Accidentally Falling While At Work
Falls are usually due to unstable working surfaces or loose hinges in a scaffold or ladder. It can cause significant fractures and injuries depending on how high the fall was. Some people can even die from a fall. Here are some ways to prevent a fall:
  • Ladders and scaffolds should meet a safety standard and are correctly sized.
  • Work surfaces should be stable,  free from holes, and provide proper traction.
  • Workers need to have guardrails, fall arrest systems, safety nets, covers, and restraint systems.
  • They need to have hard hats, non-skid work boots, and tool lanyards.

Struck By Objects
Improper use of heavy equipment such as cranes and forklifts contribute to this kind of injuries. Vehicle hazards are also part of this statistic. Here are ways to prevent getting struck:
  • Ensure that your site safety rules include clear vehicle routes.
  • Employees should know how to avoid positioning themselves in moving and fixed objects.
  • They should be trained in the safe use of equipment.

Electrical Hazards In The Site
Electrocuting yourself can be one of greatest hazard in the site. Workers are dealing with high technology equipment, and there are electrical wires on the field that they can accidentally step. Here are some ways to prevent electrical incidents:
  • Before starting work, locate and identify overhead power lines.
  • Staff should be provided with portable tools that are grounded or double insulated.

Hazardous Toxins Are Inhaled
Construction sites are filled with dangerous materials with chemicals. Chemical spills can burn and release toxic fumes that can be inhaled by workers. This airborne poisonous substance can affect the respiratory system of a person. This is how they can prevent it:
  • Workers should be provided with material data safety sheets for any hazardous chemical to be used in the site.
  • Employees should be able to know how to handle the hazardous materials correctly.

Protecting your employees requires knowing the risks that come with their work; from arriving at the construction site to ensuring that they go home safe.

With all of the precautions and trainings are given before working, employers are responsible for all of their employees’ well being. Ensure that your employees are insured by securing insurance from a reputable insurance company.

I totally agree when you said that ladders and scaffolding must meet the safety standards and be correctly sized. I guess I need to talk to professionals to ensure that they follow this protocol to avoid any accidents or injuries. It's because I will be needing this equipment since they need to use it when they get my roof replaced after years of living in this house.

Construction sites are one of the most dangerous places to work. Every year, there are thousands of construction worker injuries and deaths. The most common hazards include falls, being struck by an object, and electrocution. Other hazards include exposure to harmful chemicals and noise exposure. Construction workers need to be aware of these hazards and take precautions to protect themselves.

We appreciate your saying that ladders and scaffolds need to be safe and the right size. My dad wants to paint the house's exterior using scaffolding. I will advise him to seek out expert scaffolding services that adhere to safety standards in order to prevent any negative hazards.
