If you have employees, you're responsible for providing them with worker's compensation. It covers them if they get injured while performing their work. This insurance type charges the employer. It may vary from one state to another. As it is a business owner requirement. Worker's compensation insurance can be a little bit complicated to understand. Unfortunately, this has paved the way for the rise in the number of misconceptions. Let us take a look at some of these myths and try to debunk each of them. Myth#1 You Can Get Fired For Claiming Workers Compensation
In legal terminology, this is called retaliation. State laws impose stiff penalties for employers who retaliate. Some employers use the threat of termination to discourage employee claims. Their employers cannot fire workers for making a workers' compensation claim. It is the employee who can sue you for illegal termination. They have all the right to consult a lawyer for the action of their employer. Myth#2 Not All Injuries Qualify For Workers Compensation This myth also holds back employees from seeking workers' compensation benefits. They fear that they may not get paid for their injury because it does not qualify for benefits. There is a notion that workers' compensation will cover only physical injuries. The truth is any work-related injuries will qualify for workers' compensation. Workers' compensation will most likely cover medical conditions and repetitive motion injuries. Medical conditions caused by air quality or contamination are covered by this type. Myth#3 Employers Are Not Involved in Filing A Claim Most employees have the notion that employees are hands-off when they get injured at work. But, this is not the case. The law requires employers to report any employee injuries or accidents to the insurance company. It is also their responsibility to keep in touch with the injured employee. And provide the needed assistance so they can get back to work as soon as possible. Myth#4 Employees Are Disqualified To Claim If They Were At-Fault It is wrong to assume that blame is a factor in determining an employee's eligibility. Employees can still receive benefits regardless of whether they are at fault or not. Moreover, workers' compensation insurance can still cover even negligence or misuse of equipment. The only exception is alcoholism or drug abuse. Employees who are intoxicated or under the influence of drugs during an injury may have difficulty claiming. They need to prove that alcohol or drugs caused the injury. Put an end to these misconceptions for employers to provide workers' compensation insurance.
