How Fireproof Is Your Workplace?

Fire destroy properties, causes injuries, and at its worst, can take lives. One spark can start a fire, and the last thing you would want is to have all of what you built go to ashes in a matter of minutes. The videos of wildfire you see on the news is not as monstrous as it is in real life. It looks like it can eat all of your beings. It will make you scared and hopeless.

One of the key strategies in maintaining a safe workplace and preventing fires is making sure that your place is fireproof. There are several ways to secure your business place.
Office Fire Plan
  • Law requires fire escapes and posted fire exits.
  • Conduct fire drills regularly to keep employees aware of the fire procedures.
  • Know multiple escape routes from your building in the event of a fire.

Accessibility In The Establishment
  • Ensure access to electrical control panels.
  • Do not block sprinklers, firefighting equipment, or emergency exits and observe clearances when stacking materials.

Housekeeping Of Workplace
  • Clean all debris that accumulates on desks, in trash bins, or everywhere else. Clutter provides fuel for fires and can also prevent access to exits.
  • Verify that the fire safety equipment is in working order.

Proper Waste Disposal
  • Have separate bins for biodegradable, non-biodegradable, recyclable, and hazardous waste materials.
  • Discard fire hazards and place them in a covered metal container and empty them on a regular basis.

Maintain Equipment In The Facility
  • Check wires and replace faulty cords and equipment to prevent overheating and friction sparks.
  • Turn off all equipment if not in use.
  • Ensure that electrical sockets are not overloaded.

Maximum Building Security
  • Never leave combustible garbage near your building.
  • Lock up as instructed. Double check entryways if it is secure before leaving the building.
  • Report suspicious persons or behavior.

Check Your Fire Extinguishers
  • Look at the gauges and make sure that it is fully charged and ready for use.
  • Call for maintenance if it is not fully charged or if the last inspection tag was more than a month ago.

Report Electrical Hazards
  • Never attempt to repair electric wires if you are not qualified and authorized.
  • Faulty wiring and malfunctioning equipment are vital factors to workplace fires.

Preventing fires and staying safe is essential for all employees. Practicing and understanding the workplace fire safety procedures ensure that, in the event of a real fire, the employees know when to be safe. Cleaning the office every office hours reduces the risk of fire. Through attention to these details, employers and employees can prevent destructive workplace fires.

Whether you execute all of the fire prevention ways, you still need to make sure that your building has insurance in the event a disastrous fire will occur.
