Keeping the Workplace Safe From Accidents

When you think of workplace safety, you usually associate it to the industrial or construction industries.  However, accidents can happen in any workplace. This is true even in an office environment. Although we cannot completely eliminate accidents, we can greatly minimize the chances of it happening.  Workplace safety is very important. Here are some tips to help keep it as accident free as possible.

Keep things clean and in order

Keeping things  in order not only is aesthetically pleasing, it makes the workplace safer as well.  Hazards and other obstructions are removed from pathways. Cables, cords, and wires are tucked and secured.  These all reduces the risk of tripping over. Keeping the floor clean and in good condition reduces the risk of slipping.  Always make sure all office equipment is working and in good condition.

Put labels and signages around the workplace

If your office keeps chemicals like cleaning materials, keep them stored and labeled properly.  Electrical circuits should be labeled. All potential dangers should have warning signs installed.  It is also a good idea to have your company's safety precautions and procedure posted for everyone to see.  

Train employees on safety

It all starts with the people in the office.  Make sure your personnel are well trained for the job they are to do.  They should also be well versed in making sure they perform all jobs safely.  Make them aware of how other people are affected by their activities. Implement refresher courses as well to ensure they continue and remember.  It also helps to train some employees with helpful skills like first aid. In cases of emergencies, make sure evacuation and safety procedures are known and practiced.  

Do your part and be responsible

Everyone should do their part to avoid accidents.  If you notice a potential danger, do something about it.  If there is liquid spilled on the hallway, ask for maintenance to clean it.  If you see cracks or other damages, report it to the right people. We are all equally responsible for everyone's safety in the workplace.
